How it all began
“A brief moment inside a closed booth. A flash of light. The quiet hum of the machine before the photo drops into your hand, still warm.
That feeling when you don’t quite know what you’ll look like and that uncertainty makes the moment feel even more real.
Muikku was born out of a love for photography that isn’t too polished, a little rough around the edges, but always genuine. It’s an homage to the past and a nod to the future: a way to pause time before it slips away.
Analog photo booths are a fading tradition. Only a few hundred remain in the world. That’s why, at Muikku, we want to carry this beautiful legacy forward, combining modern technology with a retro soul.”

What do we believe in?
We believe in photos that you can feel.
The ones without a filter for perfection, but filled with emotion, atmosphere, and story.
We believe in moments that last.
A photograph isn’t just an image, it’s a memory you can take with you.
We believe beauty lives in the details.
In the texture of paper, the direction of light, the glance before the flash.
We believe in responsible visuality.
Muikku turns retro vibes into something timeless, without unnecessary consumption.
We believe photography is for everyone.
And it doesn’t have to be serious! Sometimes the best shots happen when you don’t try too hard.
We believe in nostalgia, laughter, and shared moments.
This isn’t just a studio. Muikku is a small time machine that takes you somewhere familiar and meaningful.
Meet Muikku’s Founder
Where did the idea for Muikku come from?
It was born in Berlin and Paris, in old analog photo booths. I fell in love with the moment before the flash, that split second when you can’t know how the picture will turn out. I wanted to bring that feeling back to Finland.
What makes Muikku unique?
We don’t create perfect photos, we create real ones. Muikku is like a time capsule; a mix of rough edges, nostalgia, and joy.
What do you hope people experience when they step into the booth?
That they laugh, get surprised, and see themselves in a new way. That the photo feels real, not just looks real.
Venla Välimaa – the Heart and Eye of Muikku
Venla is the founder, photographer, and aesthetic soul behind Muikku Photo — the mind where images, concepts, and visions come to life. She’s been taking photos her whole life and has dreamed of her own studio for as long as she can remember. Before founding Muikku, Venla worked as a communications specialist and digital designer.
At Muikku, Venla is responsible for photography, brand, and atmosphere — making sure every client gets to experience a moment that feels personal and unforgettable.

Inspiration: Creative people who follow their own path
What’s a typical day like for you?
Morning coffee and emails, photo shoots during the day, editing in the evening. Sometimes I am fixing technical issues with the booth, sometimes I design posters - no two days are ever the same.
What does nostalgia mean to you?
For me, nostalgia is a way to pause. It’s not just longing for the past, but a way to see the beauty in what has been and what has happened.
What’s your proudest achievement?
Getting people to believe that waiting inside a small wooden booth can actually feel exciting.
Who supports you behind the scenes?
Even though the idea is mine, I have two amazing business partners who make everything possible. They may stay behind the curtain, but they’re absolutely essential.
What do you consider your greatest success?
Turning a dream into something real and the fact that the very first photo booth actually works.
If you had a slogan, what would it be?
Give it your all, but never give up.
